Smithsonian Innovation of Flight

Last week I attended the Smithsonian's Innovation of Flight event at the Udvar Hazy Center at KIAD. For me, it was one of those bucket list things to do. I submitted an application earlier in the year and was invited to display my RV-10 in May.

Flying into KIAD and the SFRA wasn't a big deal since I was flying IFR. As a first timer, it made dealing with the SFRA a piece of cake. It was the first time I was ever turned onto a 20 mile final. We landed 19L and taxied what seems to be miles over to the Udvar Hazy Center.

I just found out that this week's AOPA Blog Video captured my RV-10, along with my wife Janice and myself. We're about 3:20 into the video.

Both Janice and I enjoyed the event. I even ran into a fellow KPTK AIr Traffic Controller that I hadn't seen since 1985.

You can find out more about the event at:

I would highly recommend submitting an application and attending if selected.

I go to Chantilly quite a bit for work and happened to be there on the 18th. I wish I would of attended but was pushing a deadline on something and didn't make it.

That said I hit that museum up about every 3 months or so. Fantastic place!
