Skyview terrain display

I have an S-LSA with Skyview touch etc. I wonder what is the optimum setting for the display of red and yellow high terrain. I currently have the setting at 1000 feet above current altitude for red and 500 feet above that for yellow.

I don't see any red on the map as I fly around Southern California where there is lots of terrain at least 1000 feet above my altitude. Only a washed out "red" is shown.

If you have experience with this please tell me. The Operators Manual has no guidance on these settings that I can find and I looked long and hard.

Skyview Operators Guide. Page 7-13. Version 11 Revision R. I think you mean "below" not "above" in your post above, or there's your problem!

Thanks. I missed that. It is in a section where I didn't expect to find instructions on the defaults.
