Showplanes canopy center latch

This is about the center latch on my Showplanes fastback canopy. It differs from the front and rear latches in that the latching rod is short, so it changes entry angle more than the front or rear latches do.

When I lubricated the latch several months ago, it operated smoothly. I don't remember what I used. When I went to open the canopy recently, it was extremely difficult and required a concerning amount of force. The problem was that the center latch was extremely "sticky". After disassembly, I found that the latching rod moves easily if it is aligned straight into the receiving piece, but that even a slight angle causes it to bind.

Has anyone else seen this problem and found a solution?

Yes, it took a bit of careful alignment and creative bending to find the sweet spot to reduce any binding. Mine gets tighter in the summer as the glass structure expands. If I loosen mine and rotate the rod just a small amount it will bind.
