If a fella doesn't have a DRDT-2 R2D2 thing - how would he go about dimpling this skin as called for in Section 34 page 12?! I have the dimple die...not sure how to go about getting it done, any advice would be appreaciated!

I just did this today but I have a drdt-2. I did have to make a tower for the female die so the skin would fit around the drdt.

That said, you could do the same thing without the drdt. Make a tower out of wood, I used some scrap poplar I had laying around. Make a “T” with two pieces of wood and screw them together. Put the T upside down and drill a hole for the die to fit in. I used 3/16”.

Place the upside down T on a solid surface and then lay the skin over it, lining up the hole. Use the male die and a light rap with a hammer will make the dimple. You only have to do 12 holes, so it should work fine.

I did that job yesterday,,,,, I used a rivet gun, and a bucking bar. Dimple dies ,,, one in a bar, and one in a rivet set with a hole drilled in the end.

This is what I did to dimple. I cut a 4x4 with a groove in it to hold the steel tube. Then clecoed it up and used the actual screw and a Philips screwdriver and a gentle tap with a hammer to dimple into the countersink using the screw. Worked out pretty well.
