For those coming later who wonder the same thing.
I used a short (3") 10 degree offset rivet set, and had to cut the rivets down very slightly (less than 1/32") to stop them tipping over. The plans call for an AD4-5, an AD4-4.5 would be better, but I didn't have any.
In the end am quite happy with the results.
