Sealing step with fuel tank sealant

Does anybody have a suggestion on what fuel tank seal to use to seal the top of the step? (Or, not to use?). Aircraft Spruce shows a bunch of different types.

Vans sells a small pack of proseal. One ounce I think. Should be enough to plug your steps.

I shot mine full of RTV.

Yes, for stuff like this, tank sealant is way overkill.
