No. It was NEVER based on the RV-8 or anything from an RV-8.

If the spec comparison makes an F4 appear a bit slower:
1) I prefer to under promise and over deliver. We have several flying and the builders claim the same or better speeds, but I'll err on the conservative side.
2) Any aircraft is subject to temperature, altitude, pilot technique, and other magic. Be suspicious of any speed claim on any airplane.
3) build one and find out!
