I just completed SB 00007 - REV 2 released on October 28, 2024. Luckily I found no cracks. I am curious why VANs didn’t make this a reoccurring inspection. Did I miss something?

I have wondered the same and also how many have been found with cracks and associated operational history of those with cracks. Anybody?

The wording in the SB is curious. SL-00033 which this SB superseded did state it was an annual requirement to perform the inspection. In my mind nothing has changed despite the omission, so I intend to continue the inspection along with the other applicable SB's and SL's that I knock out and log at each condition inspection.

I agree with those who believe that this inspection should be completed at each condition inspection, but I've been reluctant because of the dozens of screws that need to be removed and reinstalled securing the seat tracks and seat bottom plate. This year I finally woke up and realized that I could do the inspection with my video borescope! Only the seat bottom cover plates need to be removed; and you have to do that anyway to inspect and lubricate the control linkages. Saves lots of time and hassle!

Both landing gear mounts have cracks on mine. In fact, I’m sitting in Vans parking lot to pick up my SB7 kit. Most likely caused by a shimmy in the mains that i have now fixed. All landings have been smooth except for the prior shimmy.

How many TT hours / landings?
-what was the cause of the shimmy and how did you fix it?

About 220 hours and maybe 100-150 landings. Fixed shimmy on mains by balancing wheels, reduced air pressure to 45, and tighten wheel castle nut. Did this all at the same time.

This is what I hate about powder coated parts, especially ones that are difficult to access - is that really a crack in the metal or just the powder coat. Of course best to err on the side of caution and assume the worst.
