RV6A Main Gear Gap between Fuselage?

So I am in the process of stripping and the current gear leg has basically caulk filling the gap between the gear leg and fuselage. I was hoping to put a fairing on it but it looks like it wont work.

Does anyone know what the manual calls out to fill the gap? RTV?

Thanks,
D

Use RTV

The construction manual for the RV-6/6A says (page 8-10) to use RTV to fill the gap, if it exceeds 1/8" in places.

If you plan to fly in winter, you definately want to fill that gap with RTV, along with all other gaps in the wing attach area. It will help tame the drafts and make the heat more effective.
