In Canada our kits are required to be inspected prior to close up. The other RV's were fairly easy to provide this as leading edge skins did not over lap with top and bottom skins. Some inspectors are a bit more lenient and others are of the idea if they can't see the rivet clearly it was closed up to far.
On the main wing structure the leading edge skins over lap the main skins. What I am planning to do is rivet the top skin on, rivet most of the lead edge skin and pull the bottom skin out from under the leading edge skin and hopefully be able to slip it back in after inspection. Maybe leave it clekoed and they may not ask to remove it but I doubt that. Might have to leave the last rib rivet out to do this. Not really sure why Vans shows to cleko all skins on before riveting, I don't see that being required but maybe it is. We can't really do that because of our inspections required so hopefully no issues arise from that.
On the ailerons we would need to just have the frame done, skins off. Some inspectors may be ok with the trailing edge skin on bit that is a risk you take.
On the flap, only the bottom skin can be on.
On the Vertical Stab, just the frame can be done, no skins.
On the rudder Frame and stiffeners, skin stays off.
On Horizontal Stab frame done and one skin on
On the Elevator frame done and skins stay off.
The fuselage can usually get close to finished and still get the pre cover inspection. I have always got the inspection done on the wings and tail together so I could finish and store them.
If any others have other ideas on what may be the best way to deal with inspection, that would be great.
