I'm with Jerry. I agree with both and disagree with both.
I fly from a towered airport under a Class Bravo. An early turn out is wrong unless given by the tower. In a non towered airport it would also be wrong as this would not be a standard pattern. There are still planes out there without radios that might be in the pattern ( or some dind-a-ling on the wrong freq). On the other hand I know most of the tower guys well enough and when flying in the Citabria on occation they will ask me to take an early turn for traffic. I gladly accept.

Ahhh, perception again... Is a non standard pattern at an uncontrolled field "wrong"? (as in, "illegal")

Is a straight in, midfield crosswind, O/H break or Cessna 150 on a 3 mile final "wrong"?

Unexpected? Perhaps; Inconvenient? Sometimes; Against our individual preferences? Definitely.

But "wrong"?
