RV-6 First Flight

My RV-6 slooow build went from project to airplane this week. Airworthiness inspection successfully completed and first flight! Test Pilot duties were accomplished by Jim S. (JRS14855 here on VAF). It flew well with no major squalks.
This was a slow build kit from 2000 era. I am the fourth owner and it is a kit no more. RV-6 slider, IO-320, Hartzell constant speed, Dynon panel.
I appreciate and thank everyone on VAF and especially Doug - the education received from VAF has been immense and helped move this project along.

Congratulations! Great looking airplane.
What’s going on with the lower cowl? Is that a unique air inlet? Just curious. Can’t tell from the pic.

I started with a standard scoop cowl that came with the kit. I'm using a front induction engine that has a modified sump which didn't line up with the front induction cowl, so I used the FAB induction and removed the scoop and glassed it over.

The color is custom mixed using automotive paint. I wasn't happy with the first color I bought on-line, imagine that. So I bought a second color and mixed them.

I'll have to get some more pictures. I had my friend take that one just before the first flight so I'd at least have that "in case anything happens on the first flight".
