RV-15 Will call pickup

We picked up my wing kit yesterday and are (still) driving home today. I won’t be able to answer most questions until at least tomorrow when we open the boxes and inventory. Here’s a few observations:

1. The two “extra” boxes are not trivial! Acreage-wise, they take up the same or more room than the “big” box. I don’t know why previous photos of “loaded” trailers were taken before the tanks were loaded. Or maybe the kits were packed different…or their tanks are backordered. Whatever, the load was substantially bigger than we expected and pretty much filled our 16’ rental trailer.

2.My kit is packed in the old-style wooden crates. Future ones are planned for corrugated cardboard as soon as the boxes come in. With Oregon winter rain, I’d be prepared with lots of tarps! (Most of our drive up and back has been in rain with some snow.

3. Vans provided a half-dozen strong warehouse guys to load. They were very friendly. We pretty much just watched.

4. We did a factory tour and were impressed to see EVERYBODY busy and engaged in work. No scrolling on phones or gossiping. It came across as a healthy workplace!

I only had 2 crates because I got the slow build fuel tanks. I wanted to keep my options open in case some magical Jet-A powered 4 cylinder diesel motor appeared in my hangar before I finished the rest of the plane.

I hope your kit is dry by the time you got home. There was some really nasty rain in the Bay Area this morning....

How do you expect the DH to change the tank setup / completion?

The DeltaHawk diesel requires a fuel return fitting (as does SDS and FlyEFII). In addition, Jet-A fuel nozzles are larger than those for 100LL - so ideally you would install larger fuel caps than the Newton SPRL caps Van’s uses on the pre-built tanks.

We opened the boxes last night, pulled packing paper and parts out, and will start inventory this morning once the shop warms up a bit. There was a printed inventory list but no other documentation. No assembly plans, manuals, etc. No thumb drive. I'm hoping I can get something to guide me along tomorrow. I'm anxious to get started. I'm sure this is just an anomaly of early pickup. I knew we "pioneers" of the RV-15 are effectively beta builders.

Yep, and I’ve printed out the first 28 pages. But folks had been asking what was in the box and there was nothing like that in the box.

They emailed the plans to me as I was driving off.
The plans are the same as what is posted on the website.

What are your plans for the miles of paper packing in the crate? I’m really happy it wasn’t filled with styrofoam packing peanuts!

Unfortunately, much or most of the paper packing got wet. :-( So, we got it all out last night and stuffed it in about 6 yard-size trash bags. I, too, am very happy that it wasn't peanuts!

Am I to interpret that these brackets (items 5 & 6) are already machined with holes and cutouts? Nowhere does it provide guidance on how to make these brackets. If so, that's quite a nice change from the -7 kit.

I believe I just inventoried them. Definitely need deburring but appear already cut to size.

Louise, Wishing you and Paul an easy and joyful building phase!
Are you going to document this build like you did Tsamsiyu's?
(or say "Oh H*** no! That takes too long! We're just going to BUILD! :ROFLMAO: )

Mark, yes that is correct. This has been so since the 10, 12, 14, and now the 15. There is very little fabrication going on with these kits.
