This morning's Experimental Aviator has a picture (drawing) of a -15 tail. It is credited to Vans Aircraft. It looks pretty real.

So I have been noticing that they have been calling a Tail Kit and not a empennage kit like past kits. So it doesn't look like it includes the back tail portion of fuselage which I kind of expected seeing the fuselage is not finalized yet.

I think I remember them saying something about this.

Unfortunately for Van’s cash flow, I’m waiting until I get my complete wing kit before I send them any more money. They’ve had my complete wing kit payment since February for a March shipment. The kit has been repeatedly delayed and now is facing an indeterminate delivery due to the continued “supply chain” and outside vendor issues.

When they get their act together, they may get a tail kit order for me. I was looking forward to the challenge of flush riveting the entire plane and installing a DH diesel. Now I’m rethinking the entire process.

Back to the elder times when men were men and tail feathers were just tail feathers.

I wonder if there is any market for a complete kit, ready to ship, no backorders. You send them $50-$90K (maybe even more to account for their cash flow/storage), and the entire kit is on it's way that day.

Given the fact that they currently can’t even ship out a complete wing kit - I doubt many people would take that risk. There are too many stories of missing pieces (rivets, spars, flap tracks, etc.) and that makes me more than a bit wary.

Hopefully, this is just a combination of post-bankruptcy reorganization pains coupled with the inevitable new design snafus. Regardless, I’m not getting any warm fuzzies about the state of things in Aurora despite the upbeat press releases.

EDIT: This post merely confirms my feelings about the state of affairs. https://vansairforce.net/threads/14a-or-7a-transition-training.243138/#post-1928308
