Travel Air Flyer
I'm New Here
I am helping a friend get his RV-12 flightworthy. The airplane is complete and Garmin software has been updated to the latest version. The engine has been run once, and at that time everything worked fine but that was two years ago. Last week the G3X Display showed red X's over Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature and Fuel Flow. It will did not show the ammeter bar at all. The status light on the GEA 24 was steady red, indicating an LRU failure.
We replaced the GEA 24 and nothing changed...steady red status light again after the software updated in the box. Garmin Tech Support (which has been stellar!) has been onboard the whole way, and while on the phone with them I powered down the system, unplugged all the GEA 24 connectors except J241 (the power and canbus connector) and the status light went flashing green, so this is clearly NOT a Garmin issue. Since Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature, Ammeter and Fuel Flow are all on Connector J243, I left that one unplugged but plugged in J242 and J244. Status remained flashing green.
So clearly there is an issue with J243 in some manner. But with that crazy Van's connector box in between everything, wringing out the wire harness is difficult at best and given that things worked fine once, I question whether this could be a plain-jane wiring issue. Any ideas on how to debug this? Has anyone seen anything like this before? Has that crazy Van's Connector Box been an issue for others?
