I am at the point of finishing the cabin columns on my RV-10 and want to install sun visor mounts. I was planning to go with the Blue Sky visors, since they were smaller and cheaper than the Rosens, however Blue Sky apparently went out of business and the visors are no longer available. Does anybody have an alternative visor system that I may consider? The Rosens just look too big and of course $500 doesn't help either.

Personally I hate sun visors in the RV-10. The owner of my first build installed them after he bought the plane, but then trashed them as they were much more trouble than they were worth.

Rosen Sunvisor Third Axis Modification Kit The modification kit provides vertical flexibility, allowing the visor to be moved from the glare shield to the top of the windshield.
I temporarily mounted them in my -10 while building but found them to be in the way, for me. Removed them and haven't had any regrets.
In my current RV-10 I have the Blue Sky visors and I use them all the time. I couldn't imagine not having visors, but I'm generally sensitive to sunlight even with sunglasses.
I bought the same for my new RV-10 build; didn't know they had gone out of business, though.

My much cheaper solution that avoided any holes being drilled into the rollover frame.

Easy to fit onto the centre frame in seconds. Holds really well even in turbulence. Most importantly it doesn’t involve any drilling over the rollover structure.
Plus it’s a fraction of the cost.

I mocked up some when I was building. That made the decision easy for me. I’m 6’ tall.
I also halved the size of the overhead switch pod as well. Anything up there dramatically reduces your field of view out the top of the windscreen. Plus there just isn’t that much room up there.
The only times I wish I had one was when the sun is low in the 9oclock. I just bought a stick on tint square for that.
I’d test it out before committing.

I'm 6'5" my eye position is as high as I dare while not knocking my head too hard in turbulence.
When I first installed them (Rosens) I thought that they would be in the way, and continued to feel that way until the 1st flight.
Now that I'm flying they have never been in the way and I use them a lot. When the sun is low and the sky is hazy they are pure gold. Easier than a static cling patch so they get used more and they do make it easier to pick out traffic.

Mine live folded forward when not in use. Works best for me as I was trying to keep them as high as possible. I have a SFA console.

I have a set of those that I never installed on my 10 . Would love to sell them to you. Pm me. I ended up making my own.
I started with the Blue Sky versions. They kept losing there "grip" and would fall down during flight. I would tighten, they would loosen. UGH!!
Bit the bullet and bought the Rosen. Have been VERY happy with them. They are not in the way of my view (I'm 6'2") and provide GREAT benefit to me and my wife.
FWIW, I'd recommend spending the cash and getting the Rosen.

Now is definitely the ideal time to mold a bracket in fiberglass pillars if you are deciding to get visors, I went with the Rosens and had to retrofit the installation which was a bit awkward in a completed 10. Installing them on the center post is definitely an easier solution; however, I found that I use mine mostly on the side window so I chose to mount them on the pillars to have the option of swinging them over to the side and blocking the sun from beating on my neck. I’ll upload some photos of the installation this evening.
That would be great, and yes this is the time to do it, if I decide to do it.
Connecting to center post would be problematic with the Aerosport overhead console, I would guess...?

I couldn’t shell out the $ for the Rosens no matter how good they claim to be. I’m cheap so what I did was embedded a wing nut in the cabin top pillar on each side then glassed them in. I then bought the Ram visors, balls and short arms on Amazon. I trimmed them a tad so they would fit better. They sit out of the way and seem to work when needed.
If you drill holes in plain don’t use a normal drill bit. Either buy one for plex’s or grind a regular bit otherwise you risk cracks at the holes.

I used the band saw to trim my Ram visors…..worked great
Your panel seems to indicate the contrary. Very nice.
I actually like you ram solution. I like the center brace mount too, but prefer the a-pillar mount to better clear the switch pod and allow shade for the side windows.
This is a really neat solution. Added bonus I see with this is you can rotate it to the side if the sun is coming in that direction.
You can get shorter connecting arms so that might save having to trim the visor.

You’re welcome, yeah I would guess in folded up position against the canopy (photo 2) they would interfere, perhaps folded down against the windscreen they would ride forward of the console? I of course wouldn’t know, but for FWIW, my visors ride in the down (photo 3) position, folding them up is just an option for me.
For Me: I wouldn’t say that the visors were an absolute must have, but during phase 1 testing, I noticed on a few occasions where they would have been nice to have so I of course installed them and have been happy with that decision; although, I would be just fine if I never installed them.
About a year ago I mustered up the cash to install the Jet Shades in my side windows, at the time there was mention of them developing a shade that installs on the upper portion of the windscreen.

Here's what I posted last year about Jet Shades:
I ordered and received JetShades about a year ago for my RV-10. There was an initial issue with the shape of the rear shades so they sent me instructions on how to draw and cut a template on paper which I sent in (along with the original shades). They sent me replacement shades which worked well (i didn't have to cut the shades). There weren't enough of the correct type of attachment clips - they sent me more and I was finally able to get them installed. The installation process is quite simple once you have the right clips. The inside of the plane is now noticeably cooler in the summer so I am very happy with them. The attachment clips aren't exactly bulletproof but it's easy enough to put the sticky velcro strips back on. Customer service through the whole process was outstanding!

As another poster said earlier, the Jet Shades work only on the front and rear side windows. They sent me some raw material for me to try to fashion something for the top of the windshield but I wasn't able to figure something out.
