RV-10 Empennage May Be Available

Hi.

This may sound a little strange but I am considering selling my RV-10 empennage which is about 90% complete. Pictures and build log are available at https://www.myeabuild.com/. I have not made a decision yet, hence not placed it in the For Sale forum.

Somehow I got talked into building a Zenith 750 SD as well and now, given time and budget constraints, I just am having a hard time figuring out how I am going to build both before I "age out". As the Zenith is a much faster (and cheaper) build I am seriously thinking about selling the RV-10 empennage, but the price would have to be right. It has no LCP and is fully primed with P60G2.

I am interested to see if anyone has any comments on value or may be interested in the empennage themselves.

Thanks.

Just a thought….. the Zenith may be an easier build but the 10 is a lot more airplane.
Also, consider this, the day you get the 10 signed off it doubles in value.
Not likely true for the Z

Hi Jim.

Yes. Agreed. Those are all factors I considered during the 25 years I spent looking at kits before buying the RV-10 empennage. I picked up the 750 SD when Vans future was still in a little doubt and I have completed the tail and fuselage of the 750 while the completed RV-10 empennage sits gathering dust.

I hear stories of guys not being able to get insurance, having their licenses revoked (80yrs+) and look at the build time for me from 71+ and figure I'm not likely to get it finished for at least another 3 years, assuming I get the Zenith finished next year.

Right now my plan is to sell the Zenith as soon as phase 1 testing is finished which would accelerate the RV-10 build, but I am trying to be realistic. It would be with great reluctance that I part with the RV-10.

Partially built RV empennage kits seem to linger for some time and sold at a fraction of the current market pricing. 10's even longer. It seems a higher % of builders want to learn building skills on the empennage and so want to build this. Throw in the LCP issue and only furthers the stranded asset value. To complete a 10 in today's market is not going to be cheap. Just an engine is north of 100k. I purposely 😢 did not keep track of the costs but by the time all the bits and pieces are bought less paint it will be well north of 300k for a well-equipped 10. Add 4+ years of labor.

Everyone says what is your mission and it seems a 10 vs a Zenith's mission is very different.
