Ring gear question

There are two holes in my ring gear, 180 deg apart and about 1/2 in dis, threaded. What are these for? Can they be left open?
 
You don't have to do anything.

Do they go clear through? They may be for slinging an anti-ice solution out on the prop or something like that.
