Replacing an ignition lead nut

I unfortunately sheared the nut that slides over the collar on the spark plug end of one of my leads today. It’s a slick harness, and looking at Champion doc L-1499B the part that broke is an M1673 nut. Assuming I can get one of these outside of a repair kit, can the spark plug end of the lead be disassembled to facilitate replacing this, or does the end need to be cut off and a new assembly performed on the shortened lead?

This *might* help... I've only disassembled some leads to salvage the nuts and I believe you may not need to cut off and shorten the lead. The spring terminal is barbed and can be pulled out of the end of the lead to release the red shroud. The hex shoulder fitting that is on the lead is just a friction fit into a ferrule. I expect it may be necessary though to purchase the entire terminal kit (M6203 Spruce P/N# 08-06143) for the end of the lead, because the spring terminal can get bent when it is extracted.
Good luck!

Read the manual (attached) - some good illustrations show how center conductor is a tightly curled wire. Disassembly should involve some "unscrewing" action to avoid damaging coils of wire.
The threaded end of electrode screw attaches to the spring, I have had good luck grasping the spring & unscrewing as I gently pull spring from cable end. Carefully dissect drive nut & ferrule to release shield... usually very easy. Find a replacement nut (harvest from old harness or buy new) and reassemble.
Hope this helps.
