R-cubed #4 at the air races

Talking definitely helps (me, at least)

My wife and have been talking about it tonight and I know it's helping me. Definitely different for other folks. There were a lot of different reactions right after the accident around us and amongst our group.
We'll most likely be there tomorrow for the talking...

With the races canceled, we have decided that we will not be going to the BBQ this year, as much as we love the camaraderie (and food:D) it is pretty hard to justify 5 or 6 hours on the road for this.

Hope all goes off well, and everybody has a good time.

See y'all next year

Mike, sorry to hear you won't make it this year.

Latest word is that the airport is back open, so R-cubed will proceed as planned beginning about 5 pm.

I will not be attending, but hope to meet up with everyone in the future under more pleasant circumstances.

best regards

OK, looks like another venue change. Things are confusing at RTS, as you might imagine. Dinner for anyone wanting such will be at my house around 5 pm. Map below shows generally where we live. You will have to drive up McCarran Blvd (exit 10 on I-80, west side of town) south across the river to the top of the hill, make a u-turn, then the first right onto Greensburg. We are at 505. You will likely have to park on the street and walk up the driveway which bisects the hard right turn in Greensburg Circle. Call me if you get lost.

Let us help share the expenses

Greg, I want to thank you for all that you have done. And I want to help with the expenses. Please let us know if you have a PayPal account.

Thank You

Have to pass

Greg,

I am sorry, but we will not be able to make it tonight. Thank you for the invitation. We will have to get together before next year. Still a little dazed after yesterday, and just can't deal with the accident anymore this weekend.

Thanks again,

Ditto on the paypal information.

Couldn't make it today, either

I just wasn't ready to get really in-depth with the event again today, like gasman and others, even though I thought otherwise last night. Hope it turned out okay at your place..

Sorry that we missed some of you. We do have some leftovers, so might have a lunch fly-in sometime in the next month or so....

Hope everyone got home safely.

cheers,
greg

This turned out to be a nice little gathering - thanks to all of the local RV guys who put it on! (We know them all by their hats....)

It was fun listening to Bob Mills talk about his experiences racing his RV-6 in Sportsman, and to Pierre telling us how he flies crop duster lines plus or minus 1 foot. You think the ILS is a precision approach?!

We hope to see folks next year under better circumstances, but many thanks to Greg and Julia for opening up their house tonight.

Lunch Fly-in

Greg -
Great idea, keep us posted. I have been to Stead many times for the races but have never flown in.
To salvage this weekend I am going to fly from Livermore to TVL tomorrow to have lunch with the couple I was going to meet in Reno today for the races.

Greg,

Thanks to you and Julia for sharing your home with all of us last night. It was a good gathering, and it really was a good mix of conversation. We dealt with the race tragedy appropriately...paid it its respects but didn't dwell, gave some big hugs of relief...and then had some great talks about flying. It's what we do, and how we cope (one way anyway). I wondered at first if it was apropo too...but it turned out just right.

Darrell, I know where you are coming from, and rest assured that being with those affected is what we were and are doing. BBQ is a footnote...it was about the people. We've been getting together with Mark, Cheryl, Mike, Kit, Bobby and AEB from SARL as well...headed out to lunch and towning about with them today too. Will say hi for ya...and its all good brudda! ;)

As Paul said, it was very good company and discussion. Pierre and I had the opportunity to stroll through the race pits earlier in the day (I could escort), and we reflected on the events, and then spent time discussing break-away wingtips on Bearcats, and looking at speed mods on Strega and Voo-Doo. Our own cathartic methodology.

That talk about GPS guidance for dusters was amazing, and it was fun to talk about the progress of the RV-1. It was a good night...just what the doctor ordered (especially that awesome Louise hug! :)).

Thanks much!
Bob
