I took my gas caps and data plate to a local “Tropy Shop”. Total disaster.
I recall great comments on here about a job well done by a vender.
I would appreciate suggestions where get them done well.

+1 for Aircraft Engravers, my whole airplane is full of their work and I'm very happy with the results. You can see the nice job they did on my fuel caps in this thread.

What date should I put in the Data Plate Manufacturing Date? Is it the first registration date, date when I deem the project is finished and ready for inspection, or date when I get my first airworthiness certificate?

Are there any FAA rules for that?

The "Date" is not required on the data plate. The "official" date of manufacture will be the date of airworthiness issuance.

To add to what Mel said: The only items required to be on your data plate are the builder's name, model designation, and serial number. People will want to sell you data plates with extra fields like date of manufacture or gross weight, but none of this is required!

(oh, and make sure the spelling and punctuation on the data plate matches your registration certificate exactly too!)

PLEASE!!!!!!!

The EAA sells a booklet that walks you through every step of the registration process of an EAB aircraft. It is an excellent resource and will pretty much answer every question you may have. In the long run, it could save you a little cash and a lot of frustration.

Exactly! Minimum required info, inexpensive, and legal. This is what I used:

Riveted in place below my HS on the left side.

Same here. Nice stainless steel plate. Can’t beat the price.
