My PV IO-540 has them. Stock other than 9:1 pistons and the nozzles. I have no “before” comparison, but I do have some observations and theories:
-my oil consumption is a tad high at 8-10 hrs per quart. I have an oil separator that I drain after each flight. I get a few tbs. per hour. My oil stays relatively clean so I don’t think blow by is the cause. I blame extra oil misted by the squirters as a factor.
-my oil temp took several fixes to become manageable: A 15 row primary and Setreb secondary cooler; tossed the VT for a plunger; 4 cowl flaps. I do a lot of slow, high AOA maneuvering so some of my temp issues are due to time spent in that corner of the envelope, but squirters definitely add more heat to the oil that must be addressed. I can now easily manage my oil temps to the equal of my IO-320 RV-4 brothers in our local formation group.
-my CHT’s don’t run overly cool like the AV IO-360 I had on my -7A. I believe that the larger fin area of the AV head is what results in the AV’s cool CHT rep rather than heat being taken out of the piston skirts,
None of the above is an indictment of the nozzles. I believe they are a plus in the engine as a system.
Just my 2/5th of a nickel…
