Paul Dye Award

It's amazing when someone is honored for just doing what they like to do and doing it as well as Paul does! His contributions to this Forum can serve as an example! We all are blessed with his knowledge and manner of sharing that knowledge with us fellow aviators/builders! We all knew he was an amazing man; this serves to spread that knowledge to people who may not know his many accomplishments!

I am currently reading Paul's book SHUTTLE, HOUSTON. I am amazed with the first-hand knowledge he presents in this well-written book that is just up my geek-mind alley! Everyone who has even a passing curiosity of what goes on/went on at Mission Control Center to make spacecraft go up into space and return, this is a MUST READ! I might just have to read it again when I finish just to make sure I absorbed all he expertly conveyed!

Congratulations, Paul! And thank you for being part of our RV community and contributing your vast wealth of knowledge! Great picture of you and 8 Papa Delta!

Thanks everyone! It is always humbling to be recognized by a community that includes such incredible talent (much of it hidden and kept behind the scenes) as EAA and SETP - I am simply one more in a long line of folks that learned that sharing what you have been given (and taught) by the previous generations with the next generation is both necessary and rewarding. The lessons learned in experimental aviation - in design, building, and flying - are hard-won, sometimes at the cost of much blood and tears, and it is always my goal to point those lessons out to honor the folks that paid the price for learning them.

I’ve made my share of dumb mistakes - anyone who has been doing this for more than half a century has - and if I can help others climb on my shoulders to reach higher by avoiding the same dumb mistakes…well that’s a win!

See folks at the show, and remember - aviation is a team sport, and we’re all on the same team when it comes to keeping others alive!

Big Time Congrats, Paul.
For those who haven't read it, Paul authored "Shuttle, Houston" which I found to be a fascinating read and a great insider look at NASA Mission Control.

i read Paul's book. It was literally the fastest book I have read - very interesting for sure! I couldn't put it down until I was finished, then I recommended it to ANYONE I thought would be interested, which were many.

Congrats, Paul. Well deserved. Your insight and knowledge is certainly appreciated at every level.

Where is the homebuilder's dinner held? Does one need tickets?
Homebuilder’s Dinner is at the Nature Center on Thursday night - you can buy tickets at Homebuilders HQ when you check in and register your airplane (or if you drive in, just wander over to HBHQ to buy). I don’t know if they are available in advance of the show or not.

Congrats Paul... Very well deserved recognition.

We’re home again, but I can;t think of many AirVentures where I got to connect with more folks that I had never met before and who are passionate about what we do! I’m naturally an introvert who can be more comfortable with machines than people, but there is an awful lot of truth in Paul P’s old saying that “you come for the airplanes, but stay for the people”…. Thanks to everyone that made the last week special!

No one more deserving!

Paul,

I had the opportunity to attend your presentation at Oshkosh this year and it was fantastic! As an engineer of the software variety, so many of the lessons contained in your book, as well as those from Gene and Chris, are applicable to and are often referenced by me when mentoring and leading others. Congratulations and thank you for all you give back to the community here!
