I received this note from Van's at 2058 PST last night. Certainly no big deal as I'm sure no one has started this Section yet and they will send out the part to those of us with kits in the next week.

Important RV-15 Wing Kit Instructions Update
January 16, 2026

The affected RV-15 KAI is shown above. This is in Section 34, Page 8.

We need to call attention to an error in the Kit Assembly Instructions (KAI) regarding the RV-15 aileron. In Section 34, Page 8, the instructions call out a certain size nutplate to be riveted to the A-15004-002 aileron rib. This nutplate captures an AN3 bolt as part of the aileron control system.

Unfortunately, the nutplate specified in the KAI (and supplied with the kit) is incorrect. Experienced builders might wonder how an AN3 bolt will fit into an M21055-L08 corner-style nutplate for an 8-32 screw. Well, it doesn't. The correct nutplate is the M21055-L3.

If you have installed this nutplate but have not skinned the aileron, please stop now. This part is not easily accessible with the aileron skins riveted in place.

For builders not yet to this stage, hold off working on this section until we can send you the correct nutplate, which we'll do in the next week. For builders charging ahead, know that this part is available on our webstore should you need it sooner.

We're pushing hard to update the RV-15's KAIs and to keep you advised of any changes. To that end, we'll be notifying the builder community when new KAIs are uploaded to our site, and encourage you to look for and download the newest examples posted there.

As always, we thank you for being part of the Van’s Aircraft family and RV builder community.

Thanks for the heads up.

This went to my junk mail. I see that it's from media@, which I don't know I ever got an email from and it's an address that I could see some automated filters blocking. Others may want to check spam folders and whitelist/VIP that address in case future updates come from same.

media@ is Marc Cook at Van's. You definitely want him in your "good guy" folder!

Thanks for posting this, Louise. I found the email in my spam folder, have updated the filter.

I wonder how shipping will go for these parts given the shipping delays mentioned in other threads.
