The latest revision of the plans, 38iS/U-18 figure 3, shows the 1st straight section, with the flared fitting, as 15 1/2 "...

NO way! Won't fit in my plane at all. I tried re-bending by changing that length to 11 1/4 " ,
but ended up tossing that piece of spaghetti. Luckily, I have enough tube for one more attempt.

Surely someone else has noticed this. I was not able to search and find any mention of this error in the KAI's.

Does anyone have a good measurement for this? My next attempt will be 10 3/4 ".
(Yeah, I'm frustrated...sorry)

Also, if you place the tube as depicted, it interferes with the ELT antennae.
I'll probably try flipping the adel clamp around to point to the left instead of the right. It's a tight space.

I had the same issue back in 2019. Attached is the revised pdf drawing file that support sent me. Yikes, not updated yet Vans?

Thanks a bunch! I guess I'll try that. Handwritten!?! Oh my goodness...

Did that fit well for you ?

I hope someone from Vans sees this post.

I was able to manufacture and install a new line based on the marked up dimensions.
You still have to “hand bend” it to not hit the Longeron and ELT antenna.
I do think my 10 3/4” might have been easier than the 11”, but it works.
The adel clamp does have to be placed as depicted, as it will not fit pointing left of the nut plate.

whew, on to the next thing…

👍

I just threw out the directions after vans had me bend one incorrectly. Was easier to just measure and make it myself to fit the area.

Looked at my copy of this page -- pretty funny! Two colors of highlighter & various profanity in all caps. As sc_pilot says, just measure and make one yourself -- but make it over-long first and then cut to proper length.

It also helps if, when installing the T-01231 fuel tank port, you put a piece of plastic wrap between the fuselage skin and the Pro-Seal tank sealant, so that you form a properly contoured gasket (after removing the plastic) -- a suggestion on a VAF post by David Heal, which I can no longer locate. That allows removing the port but also having a good seal, and may help with fitting the line.

Boy … wish I saw this thread a week ago. Made a vent line exactly as depicted and of course had the same problem. Fortunately I think I have enough leftover tube to make one that will fit. Thanks for the new dimensions!!

Yes I found this too. I've made notes about things I found while building the kit, including this. You can read them at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1erLdUjXLkh-B2sIy7jC4rPlxlNmxPydAs8rRP5Ti3VE/edit?usp=sharing. They are mostly indexed by the manual section.
