I’m at the panel design phase. I ordered a Lycoming IO-360 M1B and want to know if I’m going to need an oil cooler knob. I’ve seen some planes with and without. Ideas?
My oil cooler doesn' require a lot of fiddling with during a flight in order to keep oil temps in the 165° - 195° F range but I do adjust it a bit on just about every flight, so I wanted it adjustable from inside the cockpit. I felt that controlling the oil shutter with a linear actuator on a rheostat was unnecessarily complex and more failure prone than I wanted so I just used Anti-splat's Bowden cable. It goes through the firewall and is mounted on the panel next to the air/heat/alt air knobs.
