O-320 FAB Question

On page 5 of my FAB plans, the updated plans from 2021, it says to countersink and flush rivet the carb heat door parts.

The question is pretty basic: which side is supposed to be flush, and why?

Thanks!

The way I interpreted it was to make the inside surface flush so that the door will seal against the top of the FAB when it is open, i.e. to close off hot air from the SCAT flange. This is also how it appears depicted in photo 5 on page 7 of the instructions.

For better or worse here is how I did mine. Covered the gaps with some baffle material and a flexible silicone flap seal. Platenuts to make the whole thing removable.

Thanks, guys. I put the flush side inside and darn if I can see any reason why flush are even needed, or why one side is preferred - except for the backing plate which has the SCAT hose fitting on top of it.
