My Engine Kit not due until 7/26, which will include new Rotax/Bosch fuel pumps and hardware for Service Letter-00121. After removing original fuel pump structure from the fuselage rear bulkhead, I started installation of the parts and hardware. I uncovered a few anomalies with the new Construction Manual Revision that included the integration of this Service Letter. My first issue was the installation of two, yes two, fuel sump drains (P/N CAV-160) in the new Construction Manual Revision. In the new Revision one diagram shows a plug not a sump drain in the Fine Filter Manifold. A later page in the same Revision shows the CAV-160 magically appearing in the Fine Filter Manifold. Funny, Van’s only shipped one CAV-160 with the SL-00121-Kit. I asked Builder Support: “Why two fuel sump drains?” I was told to follow the instructions. I just think this is
goofy.
A second issue was the failure to include a clamp that secure the fuel supply line between the fuel tank and the shutoff valve. This seems a point of failure that would allow the unsecured fuel line to rub on the Flaperon cross brace. Again Builder Support said “not required”. For those of you on this project, I wish you the best of luck, you’ll need it.
