We are pleased to announce the GDL 52/51 series of portable receivers that are capable of receiving Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) traffic and weather, as well as SiriusXM Aviation weather and audio (with subscription) for display and control on select portables and mobile devices.
The flagship GDL 52 combines all of these functions into a single device, while the GDL 51 specifically provides SiriusXM Aviation weather and audio entertainment. Both variants also provide GPS position data and back-up attitude data to compatible portable devices.
Wireless and hardwired compatibility is provided for G3X? Touch, the aera? 660 and aera 795/796 aviation portables, as well as wireless connectivity with the Garmin Pilot app, giving customers access to a full-featured suite of weather products, ADS-B traffic and more using a single device.
Each of these receivers supports 2 wired (RS-232) display connections and 2 wireless (Bluetooth) display connections for a total of 4 display devices. Music support is provided for 1 wired and 1 wireless (Bluetooth) connection.
If you already have a GDL 39 interface mount/cable for your Aera 660/795/796, you can plug it directly into the GDL 51/52 since these units use the same connector/wiring as the GDL 39 for power and data.
The GDL 51/51R are expected to be available for a street price of $649. The GDL 52/52R are expected to be available for a street price of $1,149. The GDL 52R and GDL 51/51R will be available next week through Garmin dealers at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, July 24-30, 2017. Garmin dealers will be taking orders for the portable GDL 52, which is anticipated to be available Q4 2017.
The new GDL series also include a free trial of the Garmin Pilot app. Both products are currently eligible for a SiriusXM Aviation rebate of $200 with an initial purchase of a SiriusXM Aviation weather subscription. Additionally, customers who purchase a GDL 52/52R will receive the first three-months of a free monthly subscription to the SiriusXM Pilot Preferred aviation weather package and the SiriusXM All Access audio programming package at no cost.
GDL 52 Portable ADS-B and SXM Weather/Music Receiver
The GDL 51 portable SXM receiver looks similar to the GDL 52 shown above, but without the flip-up ADS-B antenna since it is SXM Weather/Music only.

As mentioned above, there are also remote mount versions (GDL 51R/52R). The remote mount versions are the same size and use the same mounting holes as a GDL 39R for those wishing to upgrade.
The GDL 52R can also be used to provide traffic/weather/music to any of the G3X Touch displays including the new GDU 470.
