TL;DR: Only do business here with accounts with a ‘badge’ under their username (they donated with a CC and there’s a digital breadcrumb). FaceTime or Zoom 100% of the time regarding all items in the classifieds. If they won’t FaceTime or Zoom, CONSIDER THEM A SCAMMER!
Wanna loose some money fast? Trust some rando on the internet emailing/texting/DM’ing you about an item you want to buy/sell (But I need you to reach out to this other guy for the money at [email protected]. He’s ready to buy/sell!!!). If you post “I’ll take it!” in a reply with your phone number or email address, expect a scammer to email or text you. First contact should ALWAYS be a DM for a number that you can FaceTime or Zoom them with.
Some folks, unfortunately, use the same password on multiple sites. When that password gets compromised somewhere you end up with an account here with 3,000+ posts getting hacked. The crook tries to sell their RV. It’s happened. FaceTime/Zoom takes care of this.
In greater detail ……
Never buy/sell anything off a classified board w/o FaceTiming or Zooming the person. “Hey what’s a quick cell number so I can see you holding the item and we can talk about it for a bit?“ Scammers will never do this. That gets you about 95% of the way there.
To get closer to 100%, only do business here with people who have a badge under their name (they donated with a CC to support the site, and there is a digital breadcrumb trail) . Doing these two things will reduce the chance of it being a scammer to almost zero. Scammers don't donate.
If you post something for sale or you post that you're looking to buy something, and you get an email or text from somebody, I would consider that contact being from a scammer who is monitoring this board. If you get a DM, is there a badge? Could be a scammer who snuck in.
Again, if they won’t FaceTime or Zoom, and they don't have a badge, consider whoever is reaching out to you to be a scammer.
'Don't send more money than you're willing to lose' is a pretty common expression in regards to buying used things off the internet. Wise words.

PS: If you're listing something for sale, including the text 'I'd be happy to FaceTime/Zoom' will go a long way.

PSS: If you see a suspect classified listing here, please reply to it with a link to this post.

NOTE: You need a badge to create a listing in the classified section.
They look like what's below and are under the username:
