Mystery nutplates...29-07

Does anyone have a guess as to what the purpose of the two nutplates on the bottom of the center instrument panel is?

Auxiliary panel?

Vans said they would provide a bracket to add steam gauges (ASI, and Altimeter) to meet UK requirements. They said this was one possible location. Maybe that's what they are for.

I ended up mounting them above the map box.
