Mr. Funnel problem

I was cleaning the funnel after use, wiping it with a paper towel before putting it back in the box, and I noticed something sticking out from the filter. I pulled on the filter and found this sealant which was not in good shape.

I can’t be sure if any of this sealant made it into my fuel tank, but clearly this is not good. The only fuel I have used is BP Premium gasoline, according to the website with no ethanol. I have been using this filter for about 3 years, and have owned it for about 5 years.

I've contacted the manufacturer when I discovered this but they have not replied.

mmmh...
I'm using the same, albeit single cartridge, filter when using Autogas I'm not sure of, or fuel outta "unknown" canisters, like I did just a few days ago.
I was not aware the filter cartridge was removable... is it really, or did yours just fall off?

Your pictures are worrying since a filter's role is certainly not to introduce impurities into say a fuel system.

Thanks for sharing.

Mickey,
That's a bummer...
How about draining your tank, then making sure it's properly vented (i.e. no fumes) and sticking a borescope through the (removed) drain hole to check if there's debris ??

From their FAQ:

"• Do not attempt to remove filter from funnel. It is permanent.
• Do not wipe out or clean funnel after use."

The two filters on my funnel snap in place - the adhesive does not seem to be necessary to hold them, perhaps it's just a sealant.

I had saved the sealant to send back to the company if they wanted it, but they didn't reply - perhaps my mail went to their spam folder. I'll try again.

Literally the only thing that has gone through these funnels is "ethanol-free" BP Premium Gasoline from the same station. That's the only mogas I have purchased at my home base. I don't travel with the funnel. When I clean the funnel, it's a paper towel wiped around the sides and the lower "corner" to see if there is anything there - I had never touched the filters, and they seem to be in perfect condition.

This seems to be an excellent product, but I wanted others to be aware of this possible risk of this sealant coming loose.

Quick follow up - the Mr. Funnel guys got back to me and said they are looking into it.
