Does anybody have the part number for the brake discs? I have a number for the reline kit, but can't find one for the disc.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

The Matco rotor part number is WHLD164-017, if that’s what you want. I’ve purchased a pair for backup.

And while you’re at it, you might want to invest in a few extra axle nut cotter pins - MSC.11X2

Disc also

Last year I replaced my discs from Matco and had an issue with one of the Allen button head fasteners (3) that secure the disc to the wheel. I found out from Matco they changed the fasteners to a Torex type. And the Torex bit was special too, and I was able to order the bit from them.
I was able to find the Torex size needed locally at Depo, Lowe’s, or Ace but not the special one Matco suggested.
Sorry I don’t have the details in front of me of the Torex size or special designation but I’m recalling the information from a year ago. Give them a call. Support has always been good for me with Matco.

One disadvantage I can think of. If the Torx bit is not easily available in stores and you have a flat to repair somewhere, then you best have the bit with you in your on-board tool kit.

If your cotter pin is experiencing enough force to cause it to fail you should review your maintenance practices. 18 cents isn’t the issue. Convenience and quick turnaround is.

The Torx size is T27, a 5/32 allen wrench also fits.

Does anyone know if the Rapco RA164-01700 is a direct replacement for Matco WHLD164-017?
Hey David,

I just installed the RAPCO RA164-01700 Disks on my RV-7 on Saturday, perfect fit. No issues.

I'd like to have the 'backing plates' for the brake shoes on hand, instead of just reline kit. Does anyone have a p/n for those? This is for a -9A, if it matters. I thought I had the correct p/n for what I need, turns out I didn't.

Hey David,

At $196.75 for the Rapco, and $133.76 for the Matco, are the Rapco ones that much better?
Matco also has a ultra wear version WHLD164-017HEU for $205.84.
I was at Matco last month and they have some new pads that are long wear also. They are bonded to a backing plate that will rivet to out regular plates. As I understood it we will be able to order the upgrade if we are doing the reline service.

I found the Rapco for about $175 so the increase wasn't so bad and there may be indication it is better quality and last longer (not sure about this yet). I saw the Matco upgrade but wasn't sure what it entailed to install or the benefits. A brief review of their website didn't explain it so I'm going to call Matco when they open and see.

The Matco website no shows three versions of the rotor: the 017, 017HE, and 017HEU. The website indicates there are changes required to the pads and spacers for the HE and the HEU uses the same pads as th HE so it may also require the spacer changes. Again, the value f the changes is unclear.
