Lord vibration isolator rant

My flying bucket of bolts is vintage 1973 and last time Lord mounts were changed was 21yrs ago.. My rant is the Lord mounts now cost $1,100.00 for four. Part# J9613-40 which fits almost all dynafocal setups for Lycoming O-320, O-360, IO-360 (vans, Piper, Cessna, Mooney). I'm doing a field o/h and not installing the engine on 21yr old mounts.. thanks for allowing me to vent

Yes, they are called "Lord" mnounts because, "Lord, are they expensive!!!" (I use Barry Mounts, just as good!!)

Agreed.. Barry appears to be out of stock (with my part#).. Barry was my first choice, I've used them for other aircraft and better price

I've been flying VIP (Vibration Isolation Products) mounts for several years with good results. At one time you could order directly from the manufacturer, or from Spruce. I have no idea if they are still available.

I tried to track these down for an engine reinstall early this year. I can't remember who I talked to but he told me the manufacturing facility for the VIP mounts had burned down. Gave up and purchased Barry mounts after that. Can anyone confirm this?

At one time, aircraft spruce sold the homebuilder’s 08-03500 mount at considerably less expense than the Lord mount price. These were supposed to be like the Lord J-7402~5 but without the jellyfiied interior. Good enough and still working well with my O~320 dynafocal engine. Aircraft spruce is no longer offering these, but I wonder if someone with “inside” access or information can divulge the original manufacturer.
VIP (Vibration Isolation Products) still seems to have an active website.

Found them at HERBER Aircraft, $259 1 week.
Part no J-9613-40 for the O320 Dynafocal.

Found the VIPs or the lords there? No way i am paying $280 for the lords. Seems insane for two rubber discs. Unfortunately I can’t find the barrys for less than $180. All the folks with lower prices are back ordered. I am quickly getting disgusted with the aviflation!

Check on EBay. I found the Lord mounts I needed between two different sellers, new in original boxes which also had production dates on them. Paid around $140 for each. Aircraft Spruce sells them for $244 each.

There are 8 currently available on Beechtalk for $500. Might be worth registering over there if you're interested. I cannot vouch for the seller or that this part number will work in your application but post here as info only.

"I have 8 Lord engine mounts part number J-9613-12 that are new old stock which came with a project engine. They won’t work for my application. Check the application guide for fitment.

Edit for new price - how about $500 plus shipping for the lot?"

I'm surprised this talented group hasn't developed a solution for this item. What with all of the 3-D printers, used main gear tires, etc. laying idle. ;)

The shelf life of those mounts should be four years...

This just says VIP isolators can’t be used on type certificated planes. This “Notificationl” has absolutely no bearing on our experimental RVs.
I personally talked to the V.I.P. sales department in Santa Fe Springs CA. yesterday and she said "they were no longer making engine mounts. They shout down the line. Call back in a year to check and see if anything has changed." That's not good news.

Currently looking for engine mounts for my rv6 o-360, was told to go barry mounts becuase they are cheaper Barry # 94011-20 but spruce is selling them for the same price are Lord, $275 is there a source for cheaper barry mounts?

I replaced mine because I overhauled the IO-360. The vibration isolators look fine, no cracks. Probably less pliable than new but free to anyone who wants them

Does anyone know if there is a conical version of the Barry's, I can't seem to find one so I am guessing maybe not?

As an update; I ordered a set back in the early summer, they are still on back order as of this morning.
I did finally get mine in August after placing the order. It was ok since I was waiting for a engine rebuild anyway but if you need them faster might have to order elsewhere

Based on data I reviewed, I chose Lord over Barry. But it comes down to personal choice. I have a 4 cylinder non-counterbalance crank. The same mounts I bought are used on my Grumman Tiger with their "quiet package" , and that set up runs very smoothly.
