Loctite 518 flange sealant

Anyone try this on crankcase halves? The motorcycle builders love this stuff for aluminum crankcase assembly. It's anaerobic like threadlocker so assembly time is whatever you need. Extremely oil and fuel resistant. I'm not fond of rtv with continuous oil exposure. Might do silk thread with hylomar. Asking the experimental crowd because, well, y'all experiment with stuff

Absolutely my go to. It is also approved by Lycoming. I've also had to separate a case that I previously assembled with this stuff and it breaks off fairly easy. Scotch Brite on a die grinder takes it right off.

My go to for aluminum motorcycle case sealant is Yamabond or Hondabond HT.
May even be the same as the 518.

Yes 515 and 518 are VERY similar. 518 is slightly thicker and slightly more chemical resistant. Both should be good choices. 515 is purple 🟣 and 518 is red
I know I used the 518 on my last build because NAPA didn't have the 515. No leaks at 200+ hours.

If anyone wants to know the difference between 515 and 518, I found this article useful. DuckDuckGo had several hits and I like that one better than the other one I read.

I do not disagree with what was typed in the posts before mine.

Local auto parts store only has loctite #510 so I researched the difference. 510 is thinner and might run while handling. The only advantage of 510 is high temperature (400°F).. all 3 flange sealants are anaerobic, extremely oil and fuel resistant, not intended for gap filling like RTV silicone

Just FYI, I got my tube of 518 from my local NAPA store, it just took an extra day for them to special-order it from the warehouse.
Thanks for that, 518 is ordered, 515 is almost identical but unavailable locally.. let me add, my flying "bucket of bolts" (Piper) limits my choices due to bureaucracy and micro management. I know the silk thread functions, steam engines also function. Use what's best

There’s a NAPA in Joseph? That town sure has grown. Must have replaced the Saddlery ;)
