Life Insurance

Cows Around

I'm New Here
Hello all, I've been looking to this and not sure where else to turn so I thought I'd throw this out to the VR community at large.
Has anyone out there been able to get a life insurance policy while building/flying an experimental aircraft? What I am learning is that when insurance companies hear the word airplane they get very nervous and when they hear experimental in front of airplane they get paranoid and not interested in providing a quote.
I'm curious if anyone else has looked into or been able to secure a life insurance policy.
Thanks Tom

I used PIC up until I had an event that required a special issuance medical and then even they could not help me.

Now I just have the max guaranteed available at my work.

Most people are unaware that many life insurance policies exclude flying in an airplane other than typical airline passenger service.

Reach out to a broker. I got mine long ago when I was younger and it was cheap. I rolled it into a new policy when it expired. Costs more but it's fully secured. As long as the payments are made, it pays no matter how I go. It has cash value as well. Eventually it will reach max and I will have to take the cash. When I'm 90 I think. No rush.

Most policies carry exclusions for any kind of piloting, especially of experimentals. I got mine through Minnesota Life, you have to specifically ask for "No aviation exclusions" and it comes with a higher premium, but it is available.

My basic life (term) is fine. You die, they pay.
Accidental death is a different story. Non-scheduled aircraft operation is excluded.

If I die on a commercial flight on a business trip booked on my company AmEx, well, my widow is going to be just fine.....
