A very cheap handheld label maker gave up the ghost today.

Any recommendations of a good make and model?

For regular labels I love the P-touch Cube plus. (doe not work for shrink tube printing) I use the

DYMO Rhino™ 6000 for the shrink tube​

 
I use a dymo I think it’s called. I’ll take a picture of it with the model and such for you when I get to the hangar soon
 
This one, inexpensive, smallish and hasn’t let me down yet

I have the one from Stein Air. Don't remember the make and model but it's on the website. Works great.
 
Been using the Brother P-Touch for at least 10 years. I have a small desktop model. (Sorry, its at the hangar so I don’t have a model number). Also does shrink tube. Lots of 3rd party tape sizes, colour variations available. PC and MACOS desktop software available to configure very long strips such as rows of switches, breaker panels.



.....ok, found it. The model is discontinued

but looks like you can get refurb of this model. These are great. The DymoRhino is more robust

I have the Dymo which works fine but switched to the Brother P-touch. That was because I needed clear labels with white letters, which I couldn't find for the Dymo.

I have a Dymo and got a Dymo Rhino 4200... I was able to find clear with white letters, as well as black on yellow 1/4" heatsink (3:1) which should get down to a 0.05" Dia, which hope works for 20awg... I do have clear heat shrink as back up.

You can read my last post. I decided to upgrade my current Dymo LetraTag LT-100H (which is pretty good) with another Dymo, upgrade Rhino 4200 model. Way more features.

The Dymo Rhino 4200 label maker with case, rechargeable battery, charger, one black on white cartridge is normally $70-$100. I was able to get one with all the goodies for $37. That is the price for one with no accessories.

I have only did some test with black on white carriage it came with. Lots of features that will be great for a RV project to label wires and instrument panel.

I have not printed on heat shrink or white on clear yet.... I bought 5 packs of black on yellow heat shrink for $27 and 5 pack white on clear for $20. Have not got them yet. So all in everything under $90. It should be way more than I need for the whole project and then some.
 
I bought the one Stein sells, it works without batteries so far (comes with a wall wart plug). Works great on lots of widths of tape and at least 3 sizes of shrink tube. Epson and 3rd party tapes on Amazon. Epson LW-PX700. Reasonable interface on the machine. Can be printed to from Windows and Mac as well via USB, although the software is a little bit wonky. I'm tempted to print on 1 inch clear tape white for interior placarding, but laser burning would be better.

I have the Rhino and it has worked well. If you want to borrow it, let me know. I’m just south of Lansing at KTEW.
