Seems to be a problem for nearly everyone - there was another thread on this not too long ago. The advice from Builder Support was to simply fully tighten the four screws holding it to the airbox, which causes it to be a little squished but doesn’t affect function.The K&N air filter that came with my 12iS Powerplant kit appears to be abour 1/4 inch too tall. Anyone else experience this?
I did what my building buddy did on his RV-12iS and opened up the area on the cowling and then fiberglassed over the hole big enough to make the filter fit without deforming. Do you recall the title of that thread?I seem to recall that one of the responses to the earlier thread pointed out that K&N had a filter that was shorter by the amount needed to avoid squishing the filter.
Thanks for the response. I am aware of that fitment issue and the RU-0700 as a cure. I am looking to solve the issue of the filter beiong too long. I can't believe Van's cure of smashing the filter out of designed shape by forcing it into the space using the four plate screws. Per K&N's web site, the 0700 is the same length as the 0800.I believe what you saw was the difference between the RU-0800 that comes with the kit, vs. the RU-0700. Their heights are the same, 4”, but the opening for the air-intake tube is 0.02 mm larger on the 0700. Some builders have difficulty inserting the tube through the 0800 opening, so suggested the 0700 as an alternative.

It is a 3/8" spacer that is put beneath the metal closure plate. I printed it with high temp filament due to its proximity to the engine exhaust.
