Q: Sam James cowl induction inlet connects to MK1 filter airbox how?

Q: Can you use Van's FAB with Sam James lower cowl with round inlet? Pictures please.

There are a number of different SJ airboxes for the lower cowl and round inlet.
The SJ folks had a one piece and a two-piece carb/FI adapter that bolted to the bottom with a K&N conical filter and housing that mates to the round inlet.
I don't know of anyone using Vans FAB with SJ cowl.

Not a direct answer to the question but you can do anything you want, it’s experimental. Here is what I did on my Acroduster….Sam James induction kit and a Vans lower cowl scoop. Still a work in progress but I couldn’t be happier with my choice. Dare to be different, there are _way_ too many RVs out there that are all the same.

Here is a modified Van’s FAB used on an RV-10 James Cowl. The modification was to flip the top of the FAB to allow for a taller air filter. Not a requirement. The FAB connects to the cowl engine air inlet with a SCAT hose that is a touch too long. The hose is clamped onto the inlet of the FAB and is slipped over the cowl air inlet when putting on the cowl. The extra length keeps it in place. Simple.

Measured MP ram boost was ~0.5”.
