Is this going to rub?

Hello,

I am rigging up an oil cooler ala Showplanes, and at this point, the upper edge of the oil cooler is about .100" away from the cowl at the closest point. For reference this is about 5 inches forward of the firewall and the skybolt fasteners holding the cowl on.

Lets hear any war stories about how this is going to hit or break or? I don't have a gut feel for how much things move here, mounted rigid(ly) to the engine mount and that close to the cowl/firewall interface (rather rigid spot).PXL_20250410_175359259.jpgPXL_20250410_175507837.jpg

Alternatives involves yucky dipstick tube mods. Thanks in advance, Matt

If the cooler is rigidly mounted to the mount, i feel that .100” is plenty to avoid contact or rubbing. The cowl moves veryy little and the mount is as rigidly attached as your landing gear. It doesn’t move at all

While the orange is pretty, I would probably go with one of the metal based options;-)

Good man, I am going to warm up the TIG before someone posts some scary forced landing story....seriously thanks, I thought it was fine too but it's too unforgiving not to check.

Matt----thats actually pretty cool, but a long time to print that. But gives me a few 'other' ideas.

Way too close for my comfort. I know both are attached to a part that is not suppose to move but I like at least .25" clearance.
