Is Concorde RG25 suitable to replace the RG25-XC

I've had a Concorde 25RG-XC for 500hrs since new. Locally I can source a 25RG, is that a suitable replacement? I gather XC stands for eXtra Crank.

Just lately I've had a backfire on 2 occasions (the props gone backwards) when hot starting. I have a Slick Mag and a Lightspeed for the top plugs. I'm assuming the battery's tired and the backfire is caused by the wasted spark from the Lightspeed igniting some remaining fuel.

a broken impulse coupling will do that. Best to check it if your mag is the impulse variety. Wasted spark is on the exhaust stroke, with no compression, so that is not your issue. A/F mixture cannot be lit by a spark plug unless the mixture is significantly compressed.

If the backfire was due to slow rotation speed, how would it be possible to hand start an aircraft engine?
