We have (almost) all had our iPad shut down due to overheating. Summertime temperatures, direct sunlight through windscreen/canopy and perhaps charging at the same time are all factors leading to a shut down. So many of the iPad mounting cases are black, the Quad Lock case I use included, adding sunlight attraction to the list of factors.
To combat the sunlight attraction factor I installed a covering of white vinyl to the mounting case.
Not exactly pretty but so far my iPad screen has remained bright and have not experienced a shutdown. When flying before adding the vinyl I could touch the back of the iPad and it would be hot. Now the white vinyl feels warm but not hot. It has definitely made a difference!
