The reason that has been the first order recommendation from Van's for decades is that the shapes are less than ideal on a major majority of RV's. Probably 3 out of every 4 that I have checked over the years (this is something I even check on Certification Inspections) has incorrect trailing edge shapes on control surfaces. Some to a degree that I would say is severe and probably unsafe in some situations for the average pilot. Because of that fact, it should always be the
first thing checked for a roll trim issue.
Only once the trailing edges are confirmed to be shaped properly, should other changes such as changing the aileron elevation relative to the wing be checked and adjustments considered.
