I'm New Here
My XIO 540 N1A5 engine with piston squirters and standard compression cylinders had high oil temps from the first day in the air. I would typically see 220 to 235 F on an 80 degree day on climb out but coluld only get it down to 210 at cruise. I did all the recommended checks and changes including a new vernatherm (mine did not open enough) and a new housing for the vernatherm as the new one did not show the seating ring. Baffeling and ducting was standard Vans and was sealed properly. Hoses were not restricted nor was the cooller. I theorizied that the air flow coming down thru the oil cooler was being blocked at the cooler exit by the much larger and probably hotter air flow coming down thru the cylinders. The baffle I built as shown in the pictures corrected the problem. Now the temps rarely get above 210 on climb out and typically run 180 to190 in cruise. The baffle is as you see in the pictures and is open on the bottom and on the inboard side
