Heat NACA Vent Location

Hello Everyone!

I acquired a beautiful RV-12 almost a year ago and absolutely love it. The plane was born in Arizona, but I live in Cincinnati. It didn't come with heat! I need heat!

Most of the components are already in place, including the muffler shroud, ducting, butterfly box, and control knob in the cabin. The last piece needed is the NACA vent in the passenger side cowling. Does anyone know if Vans specifies the location of the vent?

Every detail is specified in the KAI (kit assembly instructions).
The NACA inlet for the heat muff mounts on the bottom left of the cowl.
If your airplane is painted you may have to have someone measure the location for you because the location is identified by marks molded into the outer surface of the cowl so would no longer be visible.
You should have a copy because they are considered part of the maintenance documentation.

I totally agree. Register the transfer of ownership with Vans. For me it especially helps in the shop, with a backend knowing what I own/need.

As for the KAI, if you know what you are searching for, you also find it publicly. If I am not mistaken all the sections for the -12is are available. Short search for “naca outlet is-12is“ brought me to section 37 of the KAI.
I always add the “is-12is” because this is how vans labels all the RV-12is relevant pdf documents.
For me, I just started the cockpit, so no help knowing and I realize, you are not looking at section 37. But maybe this helps you additionally in your quest.
