GRT Inter-Display Communication

Well Known Member
I’ve got GRT HXr and WS units. Inter-display communication on the HX units is via an Ethernet cable. The WS unit doesn’t have an Ethernet port. Can I use an open serial port to connect the two units?

Thanks

Yes.

I use Serial port #1 at 115K (I think) to send data to four of their displays (3 different types) in a loop.

Works fine.

Yes, you can use a pair of rs232 ports to interlink, but, it’s not quite as good as the ethernet due to limited bandwidth, For example, if you have adsb-in on one unit, ethernet will share all data. But the rs232 link will only share limited traffic, and no wx radar data - it’s just too much data.
