Anyone here upgraded from the original SL30 to the GTR 205X?

Looking for intel on what your process was? Changes to wiring? Challenges?

Thanks as always for the great help provided here by everyone.

I upgraded from an SL40 to the 205X. Purchased the 205X from Stein, who provided a clear wiring diagram and answered all my questions. Don’t recall any significant issues. The hardest part was being on my back under the panel and removing the old wiring. Love the 205X with its built-in intercom, additional inputs, Bluetooth capability, and sound quality.

So, the sound quality is much better? That is what I have been wondering about. It seems the sound quality on my SL30 has gone down.

Before changing anything, borrow a buddies new headset to confirm your audio degradation isn’t something simple like worn out head phones.
I recently discovered this with my beloved older headset, the fix was new $79 ear seals.

Love the radio Only downside to the remote one is it mounts in a rack like any panel mounted avionics making remote installation a little more challenging since it requires extra room to slide into the rack.

What specific wiring did you remove? The more detail you can share with me the better! Thanks!

Did you need to modify the front panel at all? Curious if this is slightly wider than the SL40?

With the exception of the wire for the PTT button on the stick, I removed all wiring connected to the SL40 and the old intercom since that was no longer needed and started fresh with the 205X. Not saying it has to be done that way, but just seemed clearer and more straightforward in my mind. The PTT wire is the only wire that is not located entirely behind the panel and is more difficult to replace so I kept that.

Note that the 205X has stereo headphone capability whereas I had mono on the SL40 so there is different wiring there, but not a big deal at all.
