Garmin Flat Rate Repair

I think I fried my gnc355. I washed the plane yesterday and took it for a quick flight to dry it off. 15 minutes into the flight the VPX annunciated “GNC355 Short”. After landing I pulled the unit and discovered water dripped inside from the quarter turn latch mechanism. I opened the box, blew out the residual moisture and tried powering it up again. No luck.

Has anyone used the garmin flat rate repair policy? It’s going to be $1650 per their website. Is this all inclusive? Ugh I need to revisit my tip up seal.

The Garmin fixed price repair policy is just that, you pay the flat rate no matter what is wrong - as long as it is repairable.
There may be shipping charges on top.
If it is not repairable you may be charged the exchange price (around $2000).
Talk to your local Garmin dealer, he may be able to offer a discount on that price.

I used it when my avionics were potentially smoke damaged. My understanding at the time was that there were no discounts, nor any limits on damage to the unit. Your mileage will probably vary...

I can't find the link to the Garmin website for; Out of Warranty flat rate repairs. Previously you would enter the model information and it would give you the flat rate repair price.

Garmin sure know how to get at you once you’re on their hook🤮
As a side note water never sees my RV! Good luck getting it sorted👍

As far as I am aware only a Garmin dealer is able to send a unit in for repair. As long as the unit is repairable the charge will be the fixed repair charge.

I sent my SL40 in for repair a couple of years ago and I'm not a dealer. Maybe something has changed or you need a dealer if you have a certified plane?

Experimental aircraft can go through Garmin Team X. Phone number is 866-854-8433 or 866-739-5687 I don't remember which. Be sure you are talking to Team X.

I would open it up again and let it dry thoroughly for a couple of days in a dry atmosphere before trying to power it up again.
