Ability for AXIS to recognize a G5 as a PFD, and allow it to run in MFD mode with reversionary backup.
I do a lot of long range flying with groups and the traffic page is invaluable for situational awareness of where everyone is, especially planes behind me. Since I use my G5 as my PFD, I frequently run map/traffic split. I can have my traffic page zoomed in to 1 mile and my map at a different scale and fly like this for hours. As a PFD, I lose my map if traffic is up. As a small plane with a single display, the only way to do this is to disable the ADAHRS in configuration menu. So instead of redundant ADAHARS, I now only have one. I lose AOA. I lose ability to use synthetic vision if the situation warrants.
My wish list:
AXIS recognizes G5 as a PFD to allow it to be a MFD
G5 can display ADAHRS information from AXIS, and failover to internal in case of failure
G5 can display AOA from AXIS
AXIS can revert to PFD mode in case of G5 failure or with reversionary switch.
Yes, I understand you can see traffic on the widgets now, it's great to see traffic that passes by, but too small to use when flying with a group. We had a flight of 19 planes last week.
Dynon has a mode where you can enable MAP as the primary display so map is always up and PFD is a page you can scroll to. I've talked to Garmin in the booth and they've said, but then you can't do this, or that. Garmin writes the software, those are limitations that they've created, and can easily be solved.
