Has anyone had any experience with Fullerton Aviation painting service?
Do you know of an aviation paint scheme designer that you would recommend?.
Thank you,
Bill

I've heard decent reviews so far, with a few caveats to look out for and discuss with them as they were 'starting out'. An aircraft they painted did win a Bronze Lindy at OSH last year. Hopefully when I get to that point in my project they are on my list to consider.

From my neighbor -

I'm sure that Fulltron does a good job. The gold standard for experimentals is Evoke Aviation (not too far away in Gadsden, AL).

As to design, there are two well known companies (I'm sure there are others). Scheme Designers and Evoke Aircraft Design (same owner as Evoke Aviation). Evoke does a lot of designs for other paint shops. They are also the gold standard for design in my opinion. I've had two aircraft designed and painted by them. Both have won awards, including Grand Champion this year at SNF.

I worked with Fulltron. Marlin and his team really stand by their work and are a pleasure to work with. I am very happy and would do it again.

I worked with Craig from Scheme Designers to develop my paint scheme. After a few times back and forth, discussing schemes that I liked and what exactly I liked about them, Craig came back with a handful of ideas. One of them nailed exactly what we were looking for without knowing what we were looking for. He was a pleasure to work with. I would absolutely go down the Scheme Designers path again.

Good Luck!
+1 for Scheme Designers. I also can recommend AeroGraphics.

I had my 9A painted at Fulltron a little over a month ago. Very happy how it turned out. The design I used was from a plane they painted that I saw at Osh 24. Marlin is really easy to work with. Give them a call.

Do you know of an aviation paint scheme designer that you would recommend?.

You, yourself, Dozens of copies of the three view drawing of your RV provided in the plans, and a pack of colored pencils. Or if you are digital, do it in PowerPoint. Nothing more satisfying than seeing a paint scheme you did yourself on a plane you built yourself. After all, it is what people see first, not the thousands of rivets you bucked.

Isn’t this what all the grade school doodling was all about?

I'm very happy with my paint job. Marlin and team are very good. Price was right.

Anyone fly in the rain with these paint jobs? Any reviews on what it looks like after a couple hundred hours of flying in random weather conditions?

Chris, durability, in particular impact durability, will be dependent on surface prep and primer, as well as choice of material. I would want to be sure the shop was using a mid or top line paint system from one of the major manufacturers. Be aware they all sell discount lines for the body shop trade, so mere brand name is not a guarantee.

There are application details too. For example, quite a few epoxy primers specify a topcoat window, i.e. the color coat must be applied before the epoxy base can fully crosslink. A delay can create a future adhesion problem. Same for the time window between base color and clear.

In general, base/clearcoat systems are more durable.

Your plane was being assembled and ready for buffing when I was up picking out paint colors for my 10. Nice RV 8. I bet it's pretty exciting to see it with paint after all those years of work.
Thanks. It turned out well and sure has gotten a lot of compliments.
